Some Info About Our Logo

With all the beautiful art and photography at our fingertips, there was probably not much thought to what I consider a gorgeous logo.  However, for those interested, especially those with a great interest in photography, I’d like to share my story.

This photo was taken on a beautiful, charming island called Amelia Island in Nassau County, Florida. It is 13 miles (21 km) long and approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) wide at its widest point. The communities of Fernandina Beach and Amelia City are both located on the island.

The island was named for Princess Amelia, daughter of George II of Great Britain, and changed hands between colonial powers a number of times. It is claimed that eight flags have flown over Amelia Island: French, Spanish, British, Floridian/Patriot, Green Cross, Mexican, Confederate, and United States.
The Amelia Island Trail is a part of the East Coast Greenway, a 3,000 mile-long system of trails connecting Maine to Florida.

We moved here 9 years ago when we fell in love with it on vacation.  “We” is Me of course, my husband, and my son.  He is the youngest of our “children”. He’s a man now at twenty years of age. With Autism, he does at this time have some limitations from complete independence.  After a hectic life of raising three other children, it was time for us to enjoy life, and most of all, we wanted a different environment for our son.  It has been one of the best decisions of our lives.

There’s a wonderful restaurant overlooking the marina called The Salty Pelican. Matter of fact, it was the first place we shared a drink at before the big move.   It’s a favorite for us and for many of the locals. When approached by a tourist asking for a good place to eat, it’s the first place that comes to mind. The food and prices are great, and you can’t beat the view.  Finding a table at times is a challenge. Although very spacious, it gets very busy just before sunset. It’s simply one of the best places to view one and you’ll find many trying to snap gorgeous pictures of their own.  As you can see, it’s not a difficult task.

So there’s the info on the logo.  What is a better reason to choose this picture for this blog and the store than one that is special to the heart.  If you’re ever in Amelia Island, pull up a chair and capture a sunset. Mother Nature doing what she does best….

This Blog Post is dedicated to the memory of my father-in-law Bob Carter. He had a passion for photography and art and was a gifted writer. We bonded over this and he was my coach…. so often giving me the pep talks needed.  He lived a fascinating life cut short by Cancer. He would be so proud of me for stepping out and sharing my writing as well as my new interest in photography. If he was alive today, he would be asking me how to create a blog with an anticipation to share his writing skills.  In his lifetime, he was a freelance writer and photographer for the newspapers as well as owning a photography studio in upstate New York. He loved nature and always had a camera at his side or in hand. Most of all, he would be proud of us for starting a new life elsewhere. “Good for you, you can’t sit around waiting for the right time”, he’d say.  My logo picture also reminds me of him. A visit to the marina almost never passes without me thinking if he was alive, he would be capturing such beauty.  He’s not, but I will. Missing him with every click.  So, Bob, this one is for you.

I had the pleasure of experiencing a little bit of Amelia Island a few weeks ago. I missed the sunsets, but caught a beautiful sunrise on the beach. We camped out at Peter’s Point; slept a perfect summer night by the waves crashing right outside my tent…amazing! I also went to The Salty Pelican, and Cantina Louie…both really good! It was a short visit, but I was treated to that southern hospitality that can’t be beat. I’m glad you found a better quality of life there…for all of you. Thank you for sharing your stories!

Thank you for reading them. It’s such a beautiful place that it can’t be kept secret. I’m pleased you enjoyed it just as much as we do.
